W6H Mobile on Historic NM Route 66

W7QQ and KK6MC will be mobile on New Mexico  historic route 66 this weekend as part of the NM Route 66 on the air. We will go west of Albuquerque on Saturday to the AZ state line and East on Sunday to the TX state line. The loops in the photo above, from the June VHF contest, will be replaced with a screwdriver. There will be two other  mobiles on the air this weekend in NM, so there is no excuse not to work W6H from Route 66. We will try to cover all bands 40M to 10M (if open) and all modes, SSB, CW, and digital.  Listen for us!!

Weekend Update

Now that we have the first weekend under our belts, here's a quick update of how we're doing...

We have over 1200 QSOs, we've worked all states except Alaska, and we've worked about 40 countries! We're making pretty good progress filling in the band/mode matrix, too:

We've had over 2200 lookups on QRZ.com and over 575 viewers have taken a look at this blog, so we must be making some noise -- cool!

I'll be on from the home QTH of Cedar Crest, which is less than 2 miles from Historic Route 66 through Tijeras Canyon, mostly in the evening on 80M and 30M, both phone and CW. I also hope to operate a bit at NN5K's QTH.  W7QQ and I will operate mobile on as much of old 66 as we can find during the second weekend. The mobile operation will probably be on SSB, and on the highest band open.  Look for us and cu on the band! 73, Duffey

Being asked to be part of the 2013 New Mexico Route 66 on the Air team is very exciting.

Operating with many seasoned and experienced operators will be a great challenge for me.

Living on the westside of Albuquerque affords me many opportunities for working DX. 

I will be working SSB on 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10M and I hope to catch all of you on the bands during this event.

My home QTH is Corrales, NM, along the west bank of the Rio Grande.  I'll be on a little bit from the house, and plan to do some mobiling on various stretches of the actual RT66.  CU on the air/road!    -Scott K5TA

I'm glad to be apart of the New Mexico Route 66 on the Air for 2013. 

I live on the north edge of Rio Rancho and have the above antennas along with 550 watts output if needed. 

Plan to be on SSB on which ever bands provide the most QSOs to folks that want to work us. I would think that will be 15, 20, and 40 meters. Hope to hear you on the bands.

I live just northwest of Albuquerque in the village of Los Ranchos, very near the Rio Grande. According to the sign along the road, the old Historic Route 66 cuts right through the village, a couple hundred yards from my house!

I'll probably do a little of everything during the "Route 66 On the Air" event, but I hope to focus on the WARC bands from home (with high power and decent antennas) and will try to do some QRP CW mobiling along the actual Route 66 (because "mobile" and "Route 66" just seem to go together).
